Commercial brick masonry facade self-performed by Summa — Seaboard Station, Raleigh NC

Division 4 — Turnkey Masonry

Self-performed commercial masonry from preconstruction through closeout: Brick · CMU · Cast Stone · Stone Veneer · Thin Brick.

Masonry systems we self-perform

01

Brick Veneer

The workhorse of commercial facades

Anchored brick veneer over stud and CMU backup, coordinated with the full envelope: shelf angles, lintels, flashing, weeps, and movement joints detailed and installed the way the wall actually needs to work — not just the way the drawings show it.

  • Anchored veneer over stud and CMU backup
  • Shelf angle, lintel & flashing coordination
  • Movement joint layout per industry guidance
  • Scaffolding and hoisting self-performed
02

CMU & Structural Masonry

Loadbearing and backup masonry, built to schedule

Reinforced and grouted CMU for structural, backup, and fire-rated assemblies. Our crews sequence structural masonry to keep the frame and follow-on trades moving, with special-inspection coordination built into the plan from day one.

  • Reinforced & grouted CMU walls
  • Fire-rated assemblies & shaft walls
  • Special inspections coordination
  • Elevator pits & stair/shaft construction
03

Cast Stone & Stone Veneer

Detail work that defines the architecture

Cast stone sills, bands, trim, and both adhered and anchored natural stone veneer. This is where tolerance control and craftsmanship show — we build mockups and sample panels so the owner and architect approve exactly what the building will get.

  • Cast stone sills, bands & trim
  • Adhered & anchored stone veneer
  • Mockups & sample panels
  • Sealant-ready tolerance control
04

Thin Brick & IMVS

Masonry aesthetics for modern assemblies

Thin brick over cementitious substrates and Insulated Masonry Veneer Systems (IMVS) deliver the look of full-bed masonry where weight, schedule, or wall depth rule it out — including podium and high-rise applications.

  • Thin brick on cement board substrates
  • Insulated Masonry Veneer Systems (IMVS)
  • Adhesive & mortar system selection
  • Podium & high-rise applications

Technical capabilities, field-proven

Turnkey means the whole scope is ours: estimating, materials, scaffolding, labor, QC, and closeout. These are the core competencies behind it.

Preconstruction & Estimating

Detailed scopes of work, labor resource planning, and constructability review before mobilization — the planning discipline that keeps masonry off the critical-path problem list.

Self-Perform Crews

Our own masons, tenders, and foremen put the work in place. Direct control over craftsmanship, production rates, and safety — not a broker layer over someone else’s labor.

Scaffolding & Access

Scaffold and hoisting planned and executed as part of our scope, sequenced with the site logistics plan and OSHA fall-protection requirements.

Quality Control

Mockups, sample panels, flashing inspections at every lift, and cleandown procedures that protect the finish — including efflorescence prevention baked into means and methods.

North & South Carolina

Field operations across the Carolinas with centralized logistics from the Triangle, and mobilization capacity for the projects that take us further.

Code Compliance

Masonry designed and installed to TMS 402/602 and the IBC, with hot- and cold-weather provisions and full special-inspection documentation.

Sectors we serve

Our capability and capacity extend to a variety of project sizes and types across the Carolinas.

Built to code and standard

Masonry is unforgiving of shortcuts — water finds every one of them. We build to the governing codes and industry standards with full documentation and inspection traceability.

TMS 402/602

Building code requirements and specification for masonry structures — design, materials, and special inspection

IBC

International Building Code compliance for masonry assemblies and fire-rated construction

ASTM C90

Loadbearing concrete masonry units — material standard for structural and backup CMU

ASTM C216

Facing brick — material standard for exterior brick veneer

ASTM C1364

Architectural cast stone — material standard for cast stone trim and accents

BIA Technical Notes

Industry-standard brick detailing guidance for flashing, movement joints, and veneer anchorage

Hot & Cold Weather Provisions

TMS 602 temperature protocols for mortar, grout, and protection of work in place

OSHA 1926

Scaffold, fall protection, and silica compliance on every masonry operation

How we execute every project

01

Preconstruction & Scope Definition

We review plans and specs, define a clear detailed scope of work, plan labor resources, and set proper expectations — the preconstruction discipline our clients hire us for.

02

Submittals, Mockups & Sample Panels

Material submittals, mortar and unit selection, and approved sample panels so every stakeholder signs off on the finish before production begins.

03

Material Procurement & Logistics

Brick, block, stone, and accessories procured against lead times and staged to match the installation sequence and site logistics plan.

04

Installation by Self-Perform Crews

Our own crews lay the work under experienced foremen, with production tracked against the schedule and flashing and reinforcing inspected at every lift.

05

QC & Special Inspections

Coordination with the special inspector, grout and prism testing where required, and our own quality checks on tolerances, joints, and embedded items.

06

Punch, Cleandown & Closeout

Controlled cleandown that protects the finish and prevents staining, punch list execution, and complete closeout documentation.
